UV Beam Displacers
These simple magnesium fluoride components provide a means of separating polarized beams with constant displacement. The UV beam displacers are oriented with entrance and exit faces parallel and inclined at 45° to the optic axis to maximise the displacement.

Delay Plates
Delay plates, which are essentially thick retarders, can be used to produce two half power pulses, separated by a defined interval, from one input pulse. The input plane of polarization is at 45° to the optic axis. In the plate, the input pulse is resolved into collinear ordinary and extraordinary pulses. These propagate at different group velocities, resulting in a separation between them in air. Delay plates are supplied manufactured from both quartz and calcite. The orientation of the optic axis is indicated by a small flat.

Foster Polarizers
Foster polarizers combine all the features of the PTBS series of beam splitting Glan Thompson polarizers with orthogonal geometry. The result is a 90° beam splitting polarizer with a wide acceptance field (15°) and high extinction ratio. Note that like conventional Glan Thompsons, they are only suitable for low power applications, limited by the cement bond. As with the PTBS series, there is no chromatic dispersion on the side exit beam angle.
